Suicides increase in Namibia

In 2002 occurred 190 suicides in Namibia. This year, 4 more people committed suicide than in 2001.

Namibia had 10.24 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.78 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 190 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 150 were men suicides and 41 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.36 per 100,000 men and for women 4.19 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Namibia. However, in Namibia in 2002 there were there were 346 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.8 homicides per suicide.
