Number of suicides increases in Mauritius

In 2004 around 107 suicides occurred in Mauritius, 10 more than in 2003.

Mauritius reported 8.75 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.53 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 107 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 82 were men suicides and 25 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.5 per 100,000 men and for women 4.04 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Mauritius suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 35 homicides in Mauritius, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.1 suicides.
