Number of suicides falls in Mauritius

In 2003 occurred 97 suicides in Mauritius. This year, 47 fewer people committed suicide than in 2002.

Mauritius had 8.02 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.69 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 97 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 70 were men suicides and 28 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 11.51 per 100,000 men and for women 4.53 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Mauritius suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 39 homicides in Mauritius, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.5 suicides.
