Suicides grow in Mauritius

By 2002, suicides in Mauritius increased by 21 people to at 144 suicides

In Mauritius there were 11.96 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.78 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 144 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 111 were men suicides and 33 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 18.49 per 100,000 men and for women 5.46 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Mauritius suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 26 homicides in Mauritius, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.5 suicides.
