Suicides decreased in Latvia

In 2019 around 288 suicides occurred in Latvia, 12 less than in 2018.

Latvia reported 15.31 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.37 suicides per 100,000 people.

Latvia is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 288 recorded suicide cases in 2019, 226 were men suicides and 62 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 26.16 per 100,000 men and for women 6.01 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Latvia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 65 homicides in Latvia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.4 suicides.
