In Latvia there were 29 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.78 suicides per 100,000 people.
Latvia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 670 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 521 were men suicides and 149 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 49.1 per 100,000 men and for women 11.9 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Latvia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 214 homicides in Latvia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.1 suicides.
