Of the 770 recorded suicide cases in 2000, 618 were men suicides and 152 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 56.7 per 100,000 men and for women 11.9 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Latvia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 238 homicides in Latvia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.2 suicides.
