Number of suicides falls in Kyrgyzstan

In 2006 occurred 543 suicides in Kyrgyzstan. This year, 12 fewer people committed suicide than in 2005. In Kyrgyzstan, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Kyrgyzstan had 10.47 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.12 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 543 recorded suicide cases in 2006, 436 were men suicides and 107 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.12 per 100,000 men and for women 4.01 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Kyrgyzstan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 446 homicides in Kyrgyzstan, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.2 suicides.
