Japan has a very high suicide rate

In 1979 occurred 20,823 suicides in Japan. This year, 624 more people committed suicide than in 1978. In 1979, on average 57 Japanese committed suicide every day.

Japan had 17.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 13.17 suicides per 100,000 people.

Japan, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 20,823 recorded suicide cases in 1979, 12,851 were men suicides and 7,972 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 22.5 per 100,000 men and for women 13.5 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
