Japan has a very high suicide rate

In 1976 occurred 19,786 suicides in Japan. This year, 189 fewer people committed suicide than in 1975. In 1976, on average 54 Japanese committed suicide every day.

Japan had 17.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 12.41 suicides per 100,000 people.

Japan, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 19,786 recorded suicide cases in 1976, 11,744 were men suicides and 8,042 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 21.1 per 100,000 men and for women 14 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
