Jamaica has a low suicide rate

In 2014 around 40 suicides occurred in Jamaica, 1 more than in 2013.

Jamaica reported 1.47 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.71 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Jamaica has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 40 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 36 were men suicides and 4 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 2.57 per 100,000 men and for women 0.31 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Jamaica. However, in Jamaica in 2014 there were there were 1,005 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 25.1 homicides per suicide.
