There are 11 suicides per day in Italy

In 2017 occurred 3,940 suicides in Italy. This year, 72 more people committed suicide than in 2016. In 2017, on average 11 Italians committed suicide every day.

Italy had 6.38 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.42 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 3,940 recorded suicide cases in 2017, 3,077 were men suicides and 863 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.23 per 100,000 men and for women 2.73 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Italy suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 376 homicides in Italy, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 10.5 suicides.
