Guyana had 22.97 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.78 suicides per 100,000 people.
Guyana has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 171 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 134 were men suicides and 36 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 35.37 per 100,000 men and for women 9.55 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Guyana suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 143 homicides in Guyana, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.2 suicides.
