Suicides grow in Guatemala

By 2006, suicides in Guatemala increased by 135 people to at 602 suicides In Guatemala, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

In Guatemala there were 4.49 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.12 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 602 recorded suicide cases in 2006, 464 were men suicides and 137 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.08 per 100,000 men and for women 2.06 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Guatemala. However, in Guatemala in 2006 there were there were 5,885 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 9.8 homicides per suicide.
