Number of suicides falls in Estonia

In 2003 occurred 342 suicides in Estonia. This year, 29 fewer people committed suicide than in 2002.

Estonia had 25.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.69 suicides per 100,000 people.

Estonia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 342 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 276 were men suicides and 66 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 43.7 per 100,000 men and for women 9 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Estonia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 147 homicides in Estonia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.3 suicides.
