Ecuador - Intentional self-harm

In 2002 occurred 819 suicides in Ecuador. This year, 42 fewer people committed suicide than in 2001. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Ecuador had 6.26 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.78 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 819 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 570 were men suicides and 249 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.71 per 100,000 men and for women 3.82 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Ecuador. However, in Ecuador in 2002 there were there were 1,906 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.3 homicides per suicide.
