In Costa Rica there were 5.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.42 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 281 recorded suicide cases in 2017, 226 were men suicides and 55 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.1 per 100,000 men and for women 2.2 per 100,000 female.
Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Costa Rica. However, in Costa Rica in 2017 there were there were 603 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.1 homicides per suicide.
