Chile had 10.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.42 suicides per 100,000 people.
Of the 1,879 recorded suicide cases in 2017, 1,570 were men suicides and 309 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.3 per 100,000 men and for women 3.3 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Chile suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 779 homicides in Chile, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.4 suicides.
