In 2002 around 1,820 suicides occurred in Cameroon, 72 more than in 2001. In 2002, on average 5 Cameroonians committed suicide every day.

Cameroon reported 11.12 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.78 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,820 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 1,392 were men suicides and 427 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.62 per 100,000 men and for women 5.33 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Cameroon suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 1,031 homicides in Cameroon, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.8 suicides.
