Suicides increase in Bulgaria

In 2017 occurred 700 suicides in Bulgaria. This year, 36 more people committed suicide than in 2016. In Bulgaria, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Bulgaria had 9.92 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.42 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 700 recorded suicide cases in 2017, 533 were men suicides and 167 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15.57 per 100,000 men and for women 4.56 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Bulgaria suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 103 homicides in Bulgaria, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 6.8 suicides.
