In 2021 around 556 suicides occurred in Bulgaria, 31 less than in 2020. In Bulgaria, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.
Bulgaria reported 8.16 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.18 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 556 recorded suicide cases in 2021, 430 were men suicides and 126 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13 per 100,000 men and for women 3.58 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Bulgaria suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 89 homicides in Bulgaria, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 6.2 suicides.
