In 2003 around 1,092 suicides occurred in Bulgaria, 225 less than in 2002. In 2003, on average 3 Bulgarians committed suicide every day.
Bulgaria reported 14 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.69 suicides per 100,000 people.
Of the 1,092 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 800 were men suicides and 292 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 21 per 100,000 men and for women 7.3 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Bulgaria suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 247 homicides in Bulgaria, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.4 suicides.
