Of the 8,867 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 6,995 were men suicides and 1,872 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.5 per 100,000 men and for women 1.9 per 100,000 female.
Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Brazil. However, in Brazil in 2007 there were there were 47,731 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 5.4 homicides per suicide.
