In 2007 occurred 1,400 suicides in Afghanistan. This year, 35 more people committed suicide than in 2006. In 2007, on average 4 Afghans committed suicide every day.

Afghanistan had 6.24 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,400 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 1,145 were men suicides and 256 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.76 per 100,000 men and for women 1.99 per 100,000 female.
