Hong Kong national debt goes up

In 2021 Hong Kong public debt was 6,776 million euros8,019 million dollars, has increased 3,7024,511 million since 2020.

This amount means that the debt in 2021 reached 2.13% of Hong Kong GDP, a 1.13 percentage point rise from 2020, when it was 1% of GDP.

If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Hong Kong debt. It has risen since 2011 in global debt terms, when it was 1,035 million euros 1,440 million dollars and also in terms of GDP percentage, when it amounted to 0.57%.

According to the last data point published, Hong Kong per capita debt in 2021 was 915 euros1,083 dollars per inhabitant. In 2020 it was 414 euros 472 dollars, afterwards rising by 501 euros611 dollars, and if we again check 2011 we can see that then the debt per person was 146 euros203 dollars .

The position of Hong Kong, as compared with the rest of the world, has remained in 2021 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 1 in the list of debt to GDP and 46 in debt per capita, out of the 191 we publish.
