CO2 emissions Syria 2020

Syria reduced CO2 emissions

CO2 emissions, in Syria in 2020, have fallen 1.525 megatons, 5.52% compared to 2019.

CO2 emissions in 2020 were 26.081 megatons, making Syria is the 109th conutry in the ranking of countries for CO2 emissions, made up of 184 countries, in which the countries are ranked from least to most pollutant.

In addition to its total emissions of CO2 into the atmospher, which logically depend, among other variables, on the country's population, it is convenient to analyze the behavior of its emissions per inhabitant. In the table we see that per capita CO2 emissions in Syria, have decreased in 2020, in which they have been 1.38 tons per inhabitant.

If you look at evolution f CO2 emissions per 1000 dollars of GDP, which measures, for the same country, the "environmental efficiency" with which it is produced over time. In the last period, Syria, has emitted 1.13 kilos for every $ 1,000 of GDP, a lower figure than in 2019. Syria is the second least efficient country in environmental terms, given the amount of CO2 it emits per $ 1,000 of GDP.

In the table we can see the evolution of CO2 emissions, which have decreased in the last ten years, as have per capita emissions and as well as CO2 emissions per $ 1,000 of GDP.

However, in the last five years total emissions have increased, as have emissions per capita, then the situation in the short term is getting worse.
