In 2012, CO2 emissions in Costa Rica have fallen 0.061 megatons, 0.79% compared to 2011.
CO2 emissions in 2012 were 7.645 megatons, making Costa Rica is the 76th conutry in the ranking of countries for CO2 emissions, made up of 184 countries, in which the countries are ranked from least to most pollutant.
In addition to its total emissions of CO2 into the atmospher, which logically depend, among other variables, on the country's population, it is convenient to analyze the behavior of its emissions per inhabitant. In the table we see that per capita CO2 emissions in Costa Rica, have decreased in 2012, in which they have been 1.64 tons per inhabitant.
Regarding evolution f CO2 emissions per 1000 dollars of GDP, which measures, for the same country, the "environmental efficiency" with which it is produced over time. In the last period, Costa Rica, has emitted 0.09 kilos for every $ 1,000 of GDP, a lower figure than in 2011.
In the table we can see the evolution of CO2 emissions, which have grown since 2002, as have per capita emissions and, on the contrary, CO2 emissions per $ 1,000 of GDP.
However, in the last five years, total emissions have decreased in Costa Rica, as have emissions per capita, then the situation is improving.
