Suicides grow in Turkmenistan

By 2003, suicides in Turkmenistan increased by 32 people to at 472 suicides In Turkmenistan, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

In Turkmenistan there were 10.09 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.69 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 472 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 384 were men suicides and 88 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.37 per 100,000 men and for women 3.63 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Turkmenistan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 233 homicides in Turkmenistan, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2 suicides.
