In 2002 around 440 suicides occurred in Turkmenistan, 31 more than in 2001. In Turkmenistan, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.
Turkmenistan reported 9.52 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.78 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 440 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 347 were men suicides and 93 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15 per 100,000 men and for women 3.91 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Turkmenistan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 241 homicides in Turkmenistan, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.8 suicides.
