Number of suicides increases in Trinidad and Tobago

In 2014 around 196 suicides occurred in Trinidad and Tobago, 2 more than in 2013.

Trinidad and Tobago reported 14.36 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.71 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 196 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 162 were men suicides and 33 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 22.71 per 100,000 men and for women 4.51 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Trinidad and Tobago. However, in Trinidad and Tobago in 2014 there were there were 405 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.1 homicides per suicide.
