Suicides increase in Trinidad and Tobago

In 2004 occurred 184 suicides in Trinidad and Tobago. This year, 34 more people committed suicide than in 2003.

Trinidad and Tobago had 14.24 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.53 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 184 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 156 were men suicides and 28 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 23.12 per 100,000 men and for women 4.08 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Trinidad and Tobago. However, in Trinidad and Tobago in 2004 there were there were 260 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.4 homicides per suicide.
