Suicides fell in Syria

By 2014, suicides in Syria increased by 10 people to at 497 suicides In Syria, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

In Syria there were 2.47 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.71 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Syria has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 497 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 405 were men suicides and 92 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 4 per 100,000 men and for women 0.92 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Syria suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 463 homicides in Syria, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
