Syria has a low suicide rate

In 2003 occurred 349 suicides in Syria. This year, 8 more people committed suicide than in 2002.

Syria had 1.94 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.69 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Syria has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 349 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 289 were men suicides and 60 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 3.25 per 100,000 men and for women 0.69 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Syria. However, in Syria in 2003 there were there were 405 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.2 homicides per suicide.
