In 1980 around 1,610 suicides occurred in Sweden, 93 less than in 1979. In 1980, on average 4 Swedes committed suicide every day.

Sweden reported 19.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 14.29 suicides per 100,000 people.

Sweden has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,610 recorded suicide cases in 1980, 1,137 were men suicides and 473 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 27.6 per 100,000 men and for women 11.3 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
