In 1978 around 1,575 suicides occurred in Sweden, 51 less than in 1977. In 1978, on average 4 Swedes committed suicide every day.

Sweden reported 19 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 12.98 suicides per 100,000 people.

Sweden, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 1,575 recorded suicide cases in 1978, 1,082 were men suicides and 493 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 26.3 per 100,000 men and for women 11.8 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
