In 1978 around 1,507 suicides occurred in Spain, 21 more than in 1977. In 1978, on average 4 Spaniards committed suicide every day.

Spain reported 4.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 12.98 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Spain has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,507 recorded suicide cases in 1978, 1,094 were men suicides and 413 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.1 per 100,000 men and for women 2.2 per 100,000 female.
