In 2017 around 1,931 suicides occurred in Romania, 43 less than in 2016. In 2017, on average 5 Romanians committed suicide every day.

Romania reported 10.01 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.42 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,931 recorded suicide cases in 2017, 1,599 were men suicides and 332 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.98 per 100,000 men and for women 3.34 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Romania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 255 homicides in Romania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 7.6 suicides.
