Romania had 12.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.53 suicides per 100,000 people.
Of the 2,648 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 2,239 were men suicides and 409 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 21.5 per 100,000 men and for women 3.7 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Romania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 487 homicides in Romania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.4 suicides.
