In 2002 around 3,067 suicides occurred in Romania, 347 more than in 2001. In 2002, on average 8 Romanians committed suicide every day.

Romania reported 14.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.78 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 3,067 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 2,539 were men suicides and 528 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 24 per 100,000 men and for women 4.7 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Romania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 656 homicides in Romania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.7 suicides.
