In 2000 occurred 2,836 suicides in Romania. This year, 100 more people committed suicide than in 1999. In 2000, on average 8 Romanians committed suicide every day.

Romania had 12.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.98 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 2,836 recorded suicide cases in 2000, 2,325 were men suicides and 511 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 21.2 per 100,000 men and for women 4.5 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Romania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 556 homicides in Romania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.1 suicides.
