Suicides increase in Paraguay

In 2003 occurred 573 suicides in Paraguay. This year, 12 more people committed suicide than in 2002. In Paraguay, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Paraguay had 10.26 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.69 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 573 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 386 were men suicides and 187 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.29 per 100,000 men and for women 7.04 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Paraguay. However, in Paraguay in 2003 there were there were 1,285 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.2 homicides per suicide.
