Suicides increase in Papua New Guinea

In 2014 occurred 785 suicides in Papua New Guinea. This year, 100 more people committed suicide than in 2013. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Papua New Guinea had 10.12 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.71 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 785 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 585 were men suicides and 200 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.31 per 100,000 men and for women 4.92 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Papua New Guinea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 713 homicides in Papua New Guinea, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
