Suicides decreased in Nicaragua

In 2014 around 582 suicides occurred in Nicaragua, 31 less than in 2013. In Nicaragua, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Nicaragua reported 9.36 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.71 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 582 recorded suicide cases in 2014, 447 were men suicides and 136 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.6 per 100,000 men and for women 4.3 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Nicaragua suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 525 homicides in Nicaragua, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
