In 2003 around 1,855 suicides occurred in Mozambique, 42 more than in 2002. In 2003, on average 5 Mozambicans committed suicide every day.
Mozambique reported 9.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.69 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 1,855 recorded suicide cases in 2003, 1,361 were men suicides and 494 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.58 per 100,000 men and for women 5.01 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Mozambique suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 1,044 homicides in Mozambique, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.8 suicides.
