Number of suicides falls in Malta

In 2019 occurred 22 suicides in Malta. This year, 3 fewer people committed suicide than in 2018.

Malta had 4.17 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.37 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 22 recorded suicide cases in 2019, 21 were men suicides and 1 were woman. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.73 per 100,000 men and for women 0.41 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Malta suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 5 homicides in Malta, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.4 suicides.
