Suicides remained unchanged in Malta

In 2017 around 26 suicides occurred in Malta, as occurred in 2016.

Malta reported 5.34 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.42 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 26 recorded suicide cases in 2017, 21 were men suicides and 5 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.47 per 100,000 men and for women 2.16 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Malta suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 8 homicides in Malta, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.3 suicides.
