Suicides increase in Malta

In 2004 occurred 24 suicides in Malta. This year, 4 more people committed suicide than in 2003.

Malta had 6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.53 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 24 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 14 were men suicides and 10 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7 per 100,000 men and for women 4.9 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Malta suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 7 homicides in Malta, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.4 suicides.
