Malaysia - Intentional self-harm

In 2002 occurred 1,297 suicides in Malaysia. This year, 8 fewer people committed suicide than in 2001. In 2002, on average 4 Malaysians committed suicide every day.

Malaysia had 5.25 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.78 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,297 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 902 were men suicides and 395 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.34 per 100,000 men and for women 3.33 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Malaysia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 565 homicides in Malaysia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.3 suicides.
