In Lithuania there were 46.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.98 suicides per 100,000 people.
Lithuania has the highest suicide rate in the world.
Of the 1,631 recorded suicide cases in 2000, 1,317 were men suicides and 314 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 80.4 per 100,000 men and for women 16.9 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Lithuania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 370 homicides in Lithuania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.4 suicides.
