Number of suicides increases in Israel

In 2000 around 394 suicides occurred in Israel, 26 more than in 1999. In Israel, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Israel reported 6.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.98 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 394 recorded suicide cases in 2000, 307 were men suicides and 87 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.9 per 100,000 men and for women 2.7 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Israel suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 154 homicides in Israel, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.6 suicides.
